This is a refurbished go set, with Chinese-style lacquered go bowls and size 15 (4mm) slate & clamshell go stones. Thin vintage stones like this sit nice and flat on the board, and can wow the players with their age.
The bowls are a unique red and black lacquer design. A cloth is uncluded to help protect the state of the lacquer on the interior. Both bowls took a lot of time and effort to repair, as one had split in half while the other had a large crack in the bottom. The split bowl was reglued with Titebond Premium II wood glue. Cracks were filled with an epoxy putty. Putty and areas missing lacquer were darkened with a black Tombow ABT N15 water-based brush. Finally, the bowls were buffed with Monkey Butter (and a toothbrush, to reach gently into the fine details).
The 180 white pieces are a Japanese clamshell. The slow-growing Japanese clams are beyond Snow grade, with incredibly dense lines. They were soaked in hydrogen peroxide for a week before being rinsed with distilled water.
The 181 black stones are slate, and are slightly larger than the white. This is usually preferred so that they appear the same size side-by-side. They were washed with soapy water and rinsed with distilled water, but have not been buffed with mineral oil as we leave this choice to you.
