This beautiful set of go stones turned up in our Colorado workshop and needs no refurbishing.
The original box indicates that these were produced by Hyuga Go Stone Company in Miyazaki. Their sales pamphlet is included, and it is fun to see the historic prices - at the time of publishing, this set cost 161,000 JPY (about $1600-$2000 at that time). Nowadays a similar set from Kuroki would cost 504,000 JPY ($3300) when in stock.
The 180 white pieces are Snow-grade Mexican Clamshell. The 181 black stones are slate. They are about 10.7mm thick, with the black pieces being slightly wider than the white to account for black's slimming effect.
