A folding board is a staple for most clubs and players 'on the go.' This Japanese board was shipped to Colorado for refurbishing. However, it was in near-perfect condition so it has not been refurbished. It comes with its original box, which is in great condition.
This board is an older style that is no longer produced. Tenons on one side slot into the mortises on the other, creating a compact and portable set that still feels solid and substantial. The wood was carefully selected, both sides are from the same single piece of Quartersawn wood cut in half. The wood is fairly dense, and the end grain looks like Agathis (some dry white wax is present there). These slotted boards were normally made of Agathis or Katsura.
The reverse side of the board has a shogi grid. Shogi sets are available by request.
