These boards are New, made in Denver in the fall of 2025. A homemade Goban arrived at the BadukClub workshop in poor condition, so the decision was made to cut it into pieces and give it new life. Many thanks to KagenSound for providing expertise and equipment!
Each board is approximately 8" x 8.5", and 1.5cm thick with chamfered edges. A 9x9 grid is provided on the top, with a 7x7 grid on the bottom. The board you receive may vary from those in the photos. Please use the drop-down menu to select a finish type and quality:
Some boards were finished with Linseed Oil and given a week to cure, then polished with Monkey Wax. Other boards were finished with Mineral Oil and polished with Monkey Butter.
The type of wood is not known. Our best guess is Zelkova or Horse Chestnut. The grid is based off of standard Japanese dimensions, with cells 22mm x 23.7mm.
Update: we have 1 board left that was finished with Mineral Oil & Monkey Butter. It has a nice 9x9 side, but the 7x7 side has two defects (as shown in the photo: the laser etching went awry on the first attempt, and the section of wood still carries the leg mortise of the original Goban that it was made from.
Our next production run of 9x9 boards will take place in February, and they should be ready by March.
