This set of go stones and go bowls was refurbished in our Colorado workshop.
The 180 white stones are Japanese clamshell. These clams grow in colder waters, in the northern latitudes of Japan, so their lines are densely packed as you can see in the photos. They were soaked in h2o2 for a week, washed, and rinsed with distilled water. The pieces are standard width and about 5.5mm thick.
The 181 black slate stones are slightly larger to account for black's slimming effect. They were washed with soapy water, rinsed with distilled water, but have not been buffed with mineral oil - we leave this choice to you.
The bowls look like Keyaki, with a patina from age. They were crafted exquisitely thin, so they are lightweight but sturdy. They have precise punts that indicate a high quality. Their dark patina makes the age hard to determine, but the area around the punts shows considerable wear so they are likely very old. One lid is a slightly mismatched replacement. Both bowls and lids were polished with Monkey Butter.
A souvenir from the 40th US Go Congress is included.
