This table board came to Baduk club from a children's toy shop in Chiba, Japan.
The board is a lovely candy color, which is typical of Kaya. Kaya is cured so that it keeps its sweet-smelling resin and is less likely to change shape over time.
It is a hagi board, where the wood has been joined together - this type of construction is quite common for a table board, to avoid the potential for warping that comes from making a thin board of a single piece. Even though it is 3 pieces, the top surface is a very consistent color.
Other signs also point to Kaya like the dark orange resin in the endgrain, the raised lacquer grid, and the unique sweet scent. It also has a high density, weighing about 5kg.
This is a vintage item, so small defects may exist - the photos highlight the major ones.
