This deluxe go set came to BadukClub from a Yui-Gi-Oh player in Toyama, Japan.
The board is 17cm thick. It has an even yellow color typical of Shinkaya (Alaskan Spruce). and it is a rift-sawn board, a Shihou-masa cut. This cutting style is the highest rated, as it has the maximum dimensional stability. Complicating matters is the curvy nature of the woodgrain. Where one might expect straight lines on all almost all of the board's surfaces, this board has immense character with crossgrain patterns and wavy lines.
The go bowls look like Cherry or some kind of Mulberry. They also have unique grain patterns.
The go stones are nearly a full set of slate & shell, with 180 black and 179 white. They were not measured but appear to be 8mm-9mm (size 30-32).
Because this set is still in Japan, it has not been refurbished in our Colorado workshop, so we can offer it at a discount. There may be small imperfections not specified here. The legs especially will look better after a scrubbing and application of paste wax.
