This awesome go set came to Baduk Club from an antique shop in Hiroshima, Japan.
The board is 17.5cm thick, and stands 30cm tall on legs. It has an even yellow color typical of Shinkaya (Alaskan Spruce). It is a quarter-sawn board, a Shihou-masa cut. This cutting style is the highest rated of all the cutting styles, as it creates straight lines on all 6 of the board's surfaces. Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter.
Because it comes with a cloth cover paulownia lid, the board is in great condition with nice edges and corners. The legs are a darker color and are probably Katsura - they are in very good shape as well. The board weighs 16kg.
The go bowls come with a protective paulownia storage box. Inside we see that the bowls have beautiful lines, and are probably Japanese Cypress which has great durability. They are size XL and hold the stones snugly.
The stones are slate and shell, about size 36 (10mm). There are 181 black pieces and 180 white, though one white piece is chipped. The clamshell stones look mostly Moon and Snow grade.
FedEx International Priority shipping from Japan (to nearly anywhere) is already included. This service reduces the actual transit time to only 5 business days, and also allows more room for padding in order to avoid shipping damage.
Because of the quality of this set, Surface shipping is not recommended, but it is possible (in 2 parcels with Japan Post). Use the discount code SURFACE to reduce the cost by $80 at checkout - this is done at your own risk, as Japan Post shipping takes up to 3 months.
In either case, please allow a week for Customs preparations, then a tracking number will be provided that you can use to sign up for notifications.
