This remarkable set came to Baduk Club from a Go & Shogi dealer in Kanagawa, Japan. Everything included is made of the rarest materials: a Kaya board, Japanese clamshell stones, and ebony bowls.

The kaya board has been refurbished on all sides, so it has clean edges and corners. It also has a new lacquer grid made with tachimori. The wood is 5cm thick, and weighs about 5kg. It features beautiful endgrain, and dense, wavy lines. It is a Kiomote cut, a single piece in a plain-sawn style. There are a couple knots on the underside, and another on one side of the endgrain.

The bowls are Kokutan (striped ebony). The dark striations are gorgeous. One bowl does appear to have a small crack near the rim - this may be remedied with wood glue or epoxy if that has not already been done.

The go stones are a full set of size 30 (8mm) slate and shell. The white pieces would be considered Snow-grade if they were Mexican clamshell. But with back-lit photos we can see that the clamshell stones have incredibly dense lines, so they are clearly Japanese in origin. This type of Suwabute clamshell is no longer harvested in Japan due to depletion. The black pieces are Slate, and will be slightly larger than the white to account for black's slimming effect.

This is a Vintage product. Thank you for understanding that small defects may exist.
