This go set came to Baduk club from a Go and Shogi dealer in Kanagawa, Japan.
The board is Hinoki (Japanese Cypress), a heavy wood with medium hardness. It is a mellow yellow color. It could be Hiba, which is also a type of Cypress. These woods have antimicrobial and germicidal properties, and a calming scent. It is a hagi board, made of multiple pieces - this helps prevent warping over time. The 5.7cm board stands 6cm tall on four rubber feet and weighs almost 5kg.
The bowls are Chestnut, size XL, with their original shellac finish in good shape.
The stones are a full set of slate and clamshell, size 31 (about 8.5mm). Spare stones will be included.
