This Goban set came to Baduk Club from a secondhand shop in Chiba, Japan.
The board is make of a single piece, cut in a Quarter-sawn style. This is Shihou-style, the preferred method for lumber to provide maximum dimensional stablility. This style creates straight lines on most of the surfaces, and is less likely to twist and crack over time.
The board stands about 20cm tall with the legs on, or they can be removed if you want to use it as a table board. There are signs of use, so the board would benefit from a scrubbing followed by a reapplication of paste wax. The board has a raised lacquer grid made with Tachimori.
The go bowls look like Camphor or some kind of fruit tree. The go stones are size 32, about 8.8mm thick. The white stones are clamshell and are 16 short of a full set. The 180black stones are slate and are 5 stones short of a full set. Replacements are available with a Custom order.
This is a vintage item. Small defects may exist, but most are shown in the photos.
