This thick go board came to Baduk Club from a resale shop in Oita, Japan.
The board is 17cm thick, and stands 30cm tall on legs. It is a quarter-sawn board, a Shihou-masa cut. This cutting style is the highest rated, because it creates straight lines on all 6 of the board's surfaces. Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter. The color points to Shinkaya (Alaskan Spruce). The color is lighter yellow in some spots - this is probably paint treatment, which can be removed with mineral spirits or other paint-thinner.
Shipping Details:
FedEx International Priority shipping from Japan (to nearly anywhere) is already included. This service reduces the actual transit time to only 5 business days, and also allows more room for padding in order to avoid shipping damage. Please allow a week for Customs preparations, then a FedEx tracking number will be provided that you can use to sign up for notifications.
Surface shipping is not recommended, but it would save $40. You can do this by using discount code JAPANPOST at checkout (this would be at your own risk, as damage is more likely to occur with the 3-month transit time).
