This shogi set came to BadukClub from a go and shogi dealer in Kanagawa, Japan.
The board is 5.2cm thick. It is made from 3 separate pieces of Kaya. and carries that famous sweet scent. This type of construction helps minimize warping that can occur when a thin board is made of a single piece. The surface of the board is easy on the eyes, with a nice even color and straight lines. It has a traditional raised-lacquer grid. Overall it is in like-new condition.
The shogi pieces carry the signature 一刀作, indicating that they were engraved by Itto-sama. The engraved characters are carefully painted with black lacquer and come with their original paulownia box. A decorative silk bag and a paulownia storage box are also included.
