This thick go board came to Baduk Club from an antique shop in Wakayama, Japan.
The board is 18cm thick, and stands 30cm tall on legs. It is a quarter-sawn board, a Shihou-masa cut. This cutting style is the highest rated, because it creates straight lines on all 6 of the board's surfaces. Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter. It has an even yellow color typical of Shinkaya (Alaskan Spruce).
The board comes with a paulownia lid for protection, as well as an old cotton cover.
