This awesome go set came to Baduk Club from a private home in Kumamoto, Japan. The owner said it used to belong to his grandfather.
The board is 17cm thick, and stands 30cm tall on legs. It has an even yellow color typical of Shinkaya (Alaskan Spruce). It is a quarter-sawn board, a Shihou-masa cut. This cutting style is the highest rated, as it creates straight lines on all 6 of the board's surfaces. Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter. The board is in great condition, with nice edges and corners. There are some incidental marks. The legs are a similar yellow color and are probably also Shinkaya.
Because this set is still in Japan, it has not been refurbished in our Colorado workshop. The paulownia storage box is a good sign, but still the bowls have some darkening around the rim from a lifetime of use. The stones have not been measured or counted, but look somewhere between Size 30 and 36 (8mm-10mm). We'd be happy to provide guidance on cleaning up this bowls, and we have replacement stones available for purchase if it is not a full set. For these reasons we are able to offer it at a discount.
