This awesome go set came to Baduk Club from a go & shogi seller in Kanagawa, Japan.
The board is 20cm thick, and stands 30cm tall on legs. It has an even yellow color typical of Shinkaya (Alaskan Spruce). It is a quarter-sawn board, an Oi-masa cut (possibly Tenchi-masa). This cutting style is highly rated, as it creates straight lines on all almost all of the board's surfaces (some crossgrain is visible on the side). Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter. The board is in great condition, with nice edges and corners. The legs are a similar yellow color and are probably also Shinkaya.
Because this set is still in Japan, it has not been refurbished in our Colorado workshop, so we can offer it at a discount. The board does not come with a paulownia lid, so incidental marks exist on the edges and corners.
The go bowls are extra large Chinese Quince by Kaishi, a skilled craftsman from Okayama.
The go stones come with an original box, indicating size 34 utility-grade clamshell. There is a full set of 181 black and 180 white, plus 2 spares of each color.
