This awesome go set came to Baduk Club from an antique dealer in Osaka, Japan. It is as thick as they come.
The board is 23cm thick, and stands 35cm tall on legs. It has an even yellow color typical of Shinkaya (Alaskan Spruce). It is a quarter-sawn board, a Tenchi-masa cut. This cutting style is highly rated because it creates Dimensional Stability for the wood, to avoid warping over time. This particular cut created straight lines on all almost all of the board's surfaces (some crossgrain is visible on the side). Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter. The board is in great condition, with nice edges and corners. The legs are a warm orange color and are probably Katsura. A paulownia lid is included.
Because this set is still in Japan, it has not been refurbished in our Colorado workshop, so we can offer it at a discount.
The go bowls are extra large Cherry, and they come with a protective paulownia box.
The go stones are size 38 slate & shell (about 10.7mm thick). There are 180 black and 170 white. The black stones are slightly thicker than the white to account for black's slimming effect. Please contact us if you are interested in purchasing spare stones to complete this set.
