This go set came to Baduk club from a go and shogi dealer in Osaka, Japan.
The bowls are Karin (Chinese quince), size XL, with their original finish in good shape. This is one of the premier woods for go bowls. Quince has great longevity, with a high density so it feels substantial in your hands. The underside carries a maker's mark by Kaishi, a higly-respected craftsman in the Okayama area.
The stones are a full set of slate and shell, size 38 (about 10.7mm). They are high-grade, between Moon and Snow. The black are slate from Kumano, Japan. There are 180 white and 181 black.
