This go set came to Baduk club from a go refurbisher in Kanagawa, Japan.
The board is Kaya, the premier wood due to its softness, color, and longevity. It has the typical candy color that Kaya develops with age, and a unique sweet scent. It is 4.5cm thick, and a Hagi board made of 4 pieces - this type of construction prevents warping which can happen when a board is made of a single piece. Kaya is very dense; the board weighs about 4.7kg.
The bowls are Shinsakura (new cherry / mahogany), size XL, with their original shellac finish. This type of wood is popular for club sets because it is light but sturdy.
The stones are a full set of slate and shell, size 35. They come with their original box which indicates Utility grade. There are 2 spare stones of each color.
This is a vintage item.
