This deluxe go set came to BadukClub from a go & shogi seller in Kanagawa, Japan.
The board is 18cm thick, which is quite large. It has a warm orange color typical of Katsura, and the density and cut point to that wood as well. It is a plain-sawn board, a Kiura cut. This cutting style is the highest rated when a tree cannot be quarter-sawn. The cut creates straight lines on the sides, and heartwood rings are visible where the players sit. The board is in great condition, barely used.
The go bowls are extra large Keyaki (Zelkova), a kind of Japanese Elm. They have their original finish
The go stones come with an original box, indicating size 35 utility-grade clamshell. There is a full set of 181 black and 180 white, plus 2 spares of each color.
Because this set is still in Japan, it has not been refurbished in our Colorado workshop, so we can offer it at a discount.
