This go set came to Baduk club from an antique dealer in Osaka, Japan.
The bowls are Keyaki, size XL, with their original finish in good shape. Keyaki is a kind of Japanese Elm (zelkova), and is one of the premier woods for go bowls. It has great longevity, feeling both delicate and sturdy in the hands. The wood grain is even and clear, like the lines on a go board and the lines on the clamshell.
The stones are a full set of slate and shell, size 33 (about 9.2mm). The white stones are Mexican clamshell. The black stones are slate from Kumano, Japan. This is a full set, with 180 white and 181 black.
This is a vintage item. It has not been refurbished in our workshop, so we are able to offer it at a discount.
