This Goban set came to Baduk Club from an art dealer in Okayama, Japan.
The go board has a warm-color heartwood that is a consistent orange. The wavy endgrain and high density point towards Katsura. It is a Kiura cut, a plain-sawn style that shows off the growth rings of the tree on the ends, with straight lines on the edges. The board has a raised lacquer grid made with Tachimori. It stands 27cm tall with legs and is in excellent condition.
The bowls are Keyaki with their original finish. They carry the signature of the maker on the underside, a great sign of quality.
The stones are a full set of slate and shell, size 31 (about 8.5mm). There are 181 black and 180 white pieces.
