This awesome go set came to Baduk Club from a private home in Chiba, Japan. It was originally purchased from Hirai Gobanten, and that paperwork is included. It was only owned by one family, and the son is cleaning out his parent's house. Everything has been cared for and is in excellent condition.
The board is 17.8cm thick, and stands 30m tall on legs. It has an even yellow color typical of Shinkaya (Alaskan Spruce). It is a quarter-sawn board, a Tenchi-masa cut. This cutting style is the very highly rated, as it creates straight lines on nearly all of the board's surfaces. Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter.
The board is nearly perfect, with clean nice edges and corners and only a few incidental marks. It has a raised lacquer grid made with tachimori. The board comes with a cloth cover (one small tear) and a Paulownia lid. White wax residue on the legs is a good sign, that will clear up with a simple rubbing of cotton cloth.
The bowls are XL size Quince, they fit the stones nicely. The bowls come with a modern paulownia storage box, which can be tied closed with a decorative purple ribbon.
The stones are a full set of slate and shell, size 37 (about 10.4mm). The 180 white stones look like moon-grade Mexican clamshell. The 181 black stones are slate.
