This go set came to Baduk club from a private home in Miyazaki, Japan.
The board is Kaya, the premier wood due to its softness, color, and longevity. It has the typical candy color that Kaya develops with age, and a unique sweet scent. It is 5cm thick, and is a hagi board made of 2 pieces - this type of construction prevents warping which can happen when a board is made of a single piece. Kaya is very dense; the board weighs about 5kg. The owner says they treated it with beeswax.
The bowls are lacquered black and feature mother-of-pearl inlay. The bowls come with non-scratch storage bags. A matching cover is provided for the board.
The stones are a full set of slate and shell, size 25 (about 7mm). The 181 black stones are slate that were treated with camellia oil. The 180 white stones are Mexican clamshell, they look moon-grade.
