This Goban set came to BadukClub from game dealer in Tokyo, Japan.
The board is make of a single piece of Katsura, cut in a Plain-sawn style. This is Kiura Itame, the preferred Center cut when a tree is not large enough for a Cross cut. This style shows off the growth rings of the tree on the ends, with straight lines along the sides. Katsura is a dense wood in waning supply, preferred for go boards because of its rich color and the gentle sound that comes from stones played on it.
The board stands about 30cm tall with the legs on. There are no major defects, but there are the usual signs of wear and tear that come with a used board, such as scratches, impacts of go stones, and slight discoloration.
The go bowls are Quince, also known as Indian Rosewood. They feature beautiful heathering. Quince has a high density and great longevity, making it a top-tier choice for go bowls. They will gradually change in color from red to orange to brown with UV exposure.
The stones are 8mm glass, a full set of 180 white and 181 black.
An extra set of legs is included.
This is a vintage item.
