This go set came to Baduk club from a reseller in Kanagawa, Japan.
The board is Kaya, which is the premier wood for go boards due to its softness, color, and longevity. It has the typical candy color that Kaya develops with age, and a unique sweet scent. It is a 17cm thick board made of 1 single piece. The cutting style is Plain-sawn (Kiura), which produces semicircle endgrain on the sides where the players sit. The legs are a bit dusty, and there are some incidental marks.
A cloth cover and paulownia box are included, though the box needs to be reglued.
The bowls are size XL Keyaki (zelkova), with their original finish. This is a standard wood for go bowls as it is durable and light. The bowls come with a protective paulownia storage box, which closes with a purple ribbon.
The stones are a full set of slate and clamshell, size 34 (9.5-9.8mm thick). There are 2 spare stones of each color.
This is a vintage item.
