This goban came to Baduk Club in very good condition from a resale shop in Saitama, Japan.
The board is 17cm thick and is quite dense, weighing over 15kg. It is a mellow color, between red and orange and yellow, making it hard to identify. It is likely Katsura, but could be Hiba. The board is plain-sawn (Kiura-Itame). This cutting style provides a flame-pattern on the playing surface, straight lines on the sides, and endgrain where the players sit. The grid is made of raised lacquer in a Tachimori style.
The legs are Katsura, and can be removed.
A paulownia storage lid is included.
