This go set came to Baduk club from a go refurbisher in Kanagawa, Japan.
The board is Kaya, the premier wood for Go boards. Kaya is valued for its color, softness, and longevity. Proper Kaya wood is cured for 10 years before it is fashioned into a board. This one has a medium caramel color and a unique sweet scent. It is a Hagi board made of 5 pieces - this type of construction is less likely to warp over time than a board made of a single piece. At 6cm thick the board weighs about 6.5kg. It comes with a Paulownia storage box.
The bowls are size XL Keyaki (Zelkova) with their original finish. They come with a protective Paulownia box that closes with a Sanada Himo ribbon.
The stones are a full set of slate and shell, size 34 (about 9.5mm). They come with their original box which indicates Utility grade. There are 181 black stones and 180 white, plus 2 spare stones of each color.
This is a vintage item. There may be other small defects, and the Paulownia boxes may need to be reglued.
