This thick go board set came to Baduk Club from a resale shop in Kanagawa, Japan.
The board is 17.5cm thick and stands 30cm tall on legs. It is a quarter-sawn board. This cutting style is the highest rated because it creates straight lines on most of the board's surfaces and provides the maximum dimensional stability. Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter. The color and grain point to the wood being Shinkaya (White Spruce). White wax residue will clear up easily with a cotton cloth and reapplication of beeswax. This is a Vintage item, so there may be incidental marks and it is sold as-is.
The board comes with a cloth cover and a Paulownia storage lid. A Paulownia storage box is also included for the bowls.
The bowls are Karin (quince). They are size XL and fit the go stones comfortably.
The stones are a full set (181 black and 180 white) of slate and shell. They were not measured, but appear to be 8mm - 9mm thick (size 30 or 32).
