This board came to Baduk club from a reburbisher in Kanagawa, Japan. It has not been shipped to our Colorado workshop, so we are able to offer it at a discount.
The board is a lovely candy color, consistent with Kaya, and it carries the unique sweet scent of Kaya. It is 7cm thick, and weighs almost 7kg. This is quite thick for a table board, and with a fresh lacquer grid it is like-new.
It is a 3-piece hagi board, where the wood has been joined together - this type of construction is quite common for a table board, to avoid the potential for warping that comes from making a thin board of a single piece. In that regard this board is better than a new one, as it will be less prone to changes in shape due to its age.
It comes with a paulownia storage box. This lightweight wood of the Princess Tree is porous and brittle, making it very resistant to mold or rot. Its heat resistance makes it a good insulator.
This is a vintage item. There may be defects in the paulownia box (it is a very fragile and light wood), incidental marks on the board, etc.
