These dark bowls have wonderful lines, and are most likely Mulberry or Keyaki with a dark stain finish. They measure 13.2cm wide and 7cm tall. They have their original finish. One bowl had a small crack in the lip, so it was glued to keep it from spreading.
The white stones are Japanese clams, with a patina from age. They are slow-growing clams, unlike the giant clams of Mexico. I would guess call them Snow-grade for their dense lines, but they are hamaguri. They have been soaked in h2o2 for a week, washed with distilled water, and buffed with iso-paraffin wax.
There are 5 extra white pieces included, as some have small nicks. This way you can replace broken pieces or discard ones that bother you. There are 181 black pieces. The white measure 3.5-4.5mm, and the black measure about 4.5mm thick.
