This set of go stones and go bowls was refurbished in our Colorado workshop.
The 180 white stones are Japanese clamshell. Calling them Snow-grade would not do them justice, as they are a different species of clam than normal Mexican clamshell. These clams grow in colder waters, in the northern latitudes of Japan, so their lines are densely packed as you can see in the photos. They were soaked in h2o2 for a week, washed, and rinsed with distilled water. The pieces are standard width and about 4mm thick.
The 181 black slate stones are slightly larger to account for black's slimming effect. They were washed with soapy water, rinsed with distilled water, but have not been buffed with mineral oil - we leave this choice to you.
The bowls are likely Chestnut. They were crafted exquisitely thin, so they are lightweight but sturdy. They have a handsome patina from age. The lathe-work is outstanding, with rings on the sides and lids, and nice punts. They have been polished with Monkey Butter.
This is a Vintage set. Small defects may exist, and we have done our best to display these in the photos and description.
The set may be an Antique. Between the unique Honinbo-style bowls and the disc-like stones, this set is uncommon and very old.
