This lightweight wooden box from Japan is designed to protect valuable go bowls. The overlapping shape of the lid ensures minimal exposure to moisture and light, while also being easy to open. It can be secured with a Sanada Himo ribbon and is held together with wooden pegs instead of metal fasteners.
Paulownia is called the Princess Tree, and has great weather resistance due to its low moisture content. It also has a high tolerance for heat and flame, but it can only insulate so much, so please do not store your go equipment in direct sunlight or near heat sources.
This is the ideal storage container for a set of size XL or size XXL go bowls, with 2 cells that are each 6.5in square and 5in tall. This one has a patina from age and some incidental marks.
The ribbon is a bit worn, but works fine. New and decorative Sanada Himo ribbons are available in the Vintage section.
