This high quality set includes Japanese go stones and go bowls that have a maker's mark.
The bowls are Karin (quince), sometimes called Indian Rosewood. The bright red tone will fade over the years, as UV light will cause the color to shift to orange and then brown. They are beautifully crafted with matching lids, and Kaishi's mark can been seen on the bottom of each bowl. They are size XL and fit the stones comfortably. A video is included to demonstrate the high chatoyance.
The 180 white pieces are Japanese clamshell. They were soaked in h2o2 for a week, washed, scrubbed, then rinsed with distilled water. Japanese stones are no longer produced due to depletion, but they are preferred for their high density - the waters at that high latitude cause clams to grow more slowly and with thinner lines. These stones have a cream-colored patina.
The 181 black pieces are Japanese slate, slightly larger than the white pieces to account for black's slimming effect. They were washed with soapy water and rinsed with distilled water. They have not yet been buffed with mineral oil, we leave that option to you.
