This beautiful go set came to BadukClub from a private home in Tochigi, Japan.
The board is 18cm thick and weighs 15.4kg. This is Shinkaya (Alaskan Spruce). It is a rift-sawn board, a Shihou-masa cut. This cutting style is the absolute highest rated, as it has maximum dimensional stability and straight lines on all of the board's surfaces. White wax residue on engrain and on the legs is a good sign. The wax will clear up by a simple brushing with a clean cotton cloth. The board comes comes with a cloth cover and paulownia lid.
The go bowls look like Keyaki (zelkova), but could be Cherry or Mulberry. They are a pleasant orange-brown color and have a weighty heft. They come with a paulownia storage box, it closes with a decorative ribbon.
The go stones were not measured or counted, but they look like size 30 (8mm) slate & shell.
Because this set is still in Japan, it has not been refurbished in our Colorado workshop, so we can offer it at a discount. There may be small imperfections not specified here.
