This thick go board set came to Baduk Club from a dealer in Kanagawa, Japan.
The board is 17.5cm thick and stands 30cm tall on legs. It is a quarter-sawn board. This cutting style is the highest rated because it creates straight lines on most of the board's surfaces and provides the maximum dimensional stability. Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter. The color points to Shinkaya (White Spruce). The reddish legs are Katsura. There may be incidental marks, but the Paulownia storage lid has protected the board well.
The bowls look like Keyaki, but could be Shioji or Cherry or some other fruit tree. They are size XL and fit the go stones comfortably. One of the lids was replaced (though I know a guy in Versailles who would swap a lid with you). They come with a protective paulownia storage box that closes with a decorative Sanada Himo ribbon.
The stones are a full set of size 35 slate and shell, about 10mm thick. There are 2 spares included of each color. They come with their original box. The black stones are slightly thicker to account for black's slimming effect.
