This thick go board set came to Baduk Club from a pawn shop in Nagasaki, Japan.
The board is 18cm thick and stands 30cm tall on legs. It is a quarter-sawn board. This cutting style is the highest rated because it creates straight lines on most of the board's surfaces and provides the maximum dimensional stability. Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter. The grain points to the wood being Shinkaya (White Spruce), and the dark color indicates an older board that has been cared for. The board will absolutely glow with a fresh coat of paste wax.
The bowls are Cherry or something similar like Quince. They are size XL and fit the go stones comfortably.
The stones are a full set (181 black and 180 white) of size 34 slate and shell, about 9.8mm thick. The white stones look moon or snow-grade, with dense visible lines. The black stones are slightly thicker to account for black's slimming effect.
