This thick go board set came to BadukClub from an antique store in Gunma, Japan.
The board is 17cm thick and stands 30cm tall on legs. It is a rift-sawn board. This cutting style is the highest rated because it creates straight lines on all board's surfaces and provides the maximum dimensional stability. Such a cut is only possible with a tree of immense diameter. The grain and color are standard for Shinkaya (White Spruce). The legs are Katsura, a warm reddish color.
A paulownia storage lid is included. It may need to be reglued after shipping.
The bowls are Cherry or something similar like Zelkova. They are size XL and fit the go stones comfortably.
The stones were not measured or counted. They look like a full set of size 32 slate and shell, about 9mm thick. The white stones look moon-grade, with dense visible lines. The black stones are slightly thicker to account for black's slimming effect.
