This lovely set includes refurbished Go Stones and high-quality Go Bowls.
The high density of the 180 clamshells points to them being Japanese in origin. However, we are not certain of that so the sale price will be commensurate with a normal set of Mexican clamshell. Japanese clams that are no longer harvested due to depletion and are not graded like Mexican clams, as they grow slower in cold waters at a higher latitude. As a result, Japanese stones have a higher density and are less prone to chipping. The clamshell stones were been cleaned per our Care Instructions, including a week-long soak in h2o2 and a rinse with distilled water. They were buffed with iso-paraffin wax. The white pieces are about 8.3mm thick and have a cream-color patina.
The 181 slate stones are slightly larger, to account for black's slimming effect. They were washed with soapy water, rinsed with distilled water, but have not yet been buffed with mineral oil (we leave this choice to you).
The bowls are an unknown wood type. They are lightweight and feature burly grain with high chatoyance. Our best guess is Yellow Taiwanese Cypress. They arrived in our Colorado workshop in good condition, and at XL size they fit the stones snugly. They were buffed with Monkey Butter. The lids fit very snugly, so the bowls may have shrunk slightly over time.
This is one of our Vintage products. Due to their age, the clamshell stones may have small defects. This cannot be helped with a Used set. If you want a new set of Hyuga Suwabute stones that will be pure white and without any wear & tear, we recommend visiting Mr. Kuroki or HyugaGoBoardStone, where they are available in the $2000-$7000 range.
